It is a must for guests to throw rice and petals of white roses at the newlyweds as they exit the Church or the Municipio.
In Italy the rice represents good fortune and money and that is why the more that is thrown, the better it is for the couple.
This is a wedding tradition which dates back to the Romans who used to thrown the wheat to  newlyweds as a symbol of prosperity and fruitful life.

In Italy confetti are sugar-coated almonds, that are white but  also in many different colors and that generally are displayed on a sweet table at the end of the wedding reception.
Generally the are five because in Italy they are symbol of fertility, long life, health, richness and happiness.
The confetti form part of the bomboniera, which is the gift traditionally given from newlyweds to guests as a thank you at the end of the wedding day, just before guests leave.

The Bridal Bouquet

In Italy, traditionally, it is the groom’s job to supply the bridal bouquet. This is considered to be his final gift to his girlfriend before she becomes his wife. The bride choose the floral arrangement, but it is the groom who must pay the bill.
A very popular italian custom about the bouquet: after the reception, the Bride launch bouquet through air at  women wedding guests. She that catches the bouquet is thought will be the next lady in line to wed.
